Here at Alchemilla Apothecary, we offer a range of herbal products made up of tried and tested heirloom recipes and herbal formulations gathered from around the world. Many of the products in our shop are manufactured by hand in small batches. Some are sourced from specialist herbal suppliers. Every product we stock has been created by us here at Alchemilla, or by a fellow herbalist who’s working hard to keep our botanical traditions alive and well somewhere in the world. We endeavour to source wild-crafted or organic products whenever possible. By purchasing from Alchemilla, you’re directly supporting small batch herbalists to continue their work against a backdrop of increasingly mass manufactured health and wellness products.

Our core value? The preservation of herbal wisdom for future generations. Bringing the power of nature’s medicine chest into your home.

We post out to most places, and also offer a local pick-up service for customers living within Newquay and the surrounding areas. For information about postage and our collection service, please refer to the relevant section at the bottom of this page.

Our range of skin care products is specially formulated by practicing herbalists. These high grade products are manufactured in small batches, and contain active plant ingredients traditionally used to help with a range of common skin conditions.

A tincture is an alcohol based plant extract. This method of preparation means that the active ingredients are in bioavailable liquid form. They’re easy to take, act quickly to get into the system, and have a longer shelf life than fresh herbs. We stock a range of artisan tinctures, many of which are made on the premises from produce sourced from local organic growers. We also stock a small range of rare plant extracts that are not listed in the catalogue.

As a working herbal dispensary we have over 500 individual herbal extracts which are used to make up customer prescriptions and bespoke blends. If you don’t see it here, please ask! In addition to the products in the dispensary, we also offer a bespoke tincturing service for people looking to create medicines from plants they’ve grown themselves. To enquire about this specialist service, please send an email to sarah@alchemilla.co.

As part of our commitment to reducing waste, tincture refills for glass bottles are now available on request.

Here at the dispensary we stock a range of fragrant blends of specially chosen dried herbs that can be drunk freely as a tea or used as a base for making stronger herbal decoctions.

In addition to our core range, we also stock small batch blends made with ingredients that are available locally at the time. All our blends are packaged in biodegradable pouches made from kraft paper, cellulose and starch film which are tested and certified as fully compostable. The packaging will decompose in ten weeks, and can be composted at home or deposited in ‘’compostable food waste’’ refuse containers. Some of our blends also come with handy “fill your own” plastic free, zero to landfill, fully compostable, earth friendly tea bags.

The popular 10 day detox and rejuvenate programme can be undertaken as an individual client with one to one support, or as part a group. Details of upcoming group cleanses are announced in the apothecary newsletter.

Herb store 2

As herbalists and wild-crafters, the wellbeing of our customers and the planet is of the utmost importance. Endeavouring to operate an environmentally friendly business is important in simple and complex ways.

We all know about the horrible impact the use of plastics is having on our world and on our health. With this in mind, we do our best to package all products in high quality, re-useable, recyclable glass containers. However, as breakages can happen, larger products (250 ml sausage tree cream and customer prescriptions) are currently sent out in recyclable plastic bottles. However, in attempt to offset this, we now offer refills for creams and tinctures. These refills are dispensed in pouches, which use less plastic to minimise waste. Our refill pouches are lightweight, meaning they can be more easily transported. This equates to lower fuel costs, and a reduced carbon footprint compared with more traditional packaging options.

In addition, all our herbal tea blends are packaged in 100% biodegradable pouches made from kraft paper, cellulose and starch film which are tested and certified as fully compostable. The packaging completely decomposes in ten weeks, and can be composted at home or deposited in ‘’compostable food waste’’ refuse containers. Tea blends also come with handy “fill your own” plastic free, zero to landfill, fully compostable tea bags, which are fun to use as well as being earth friendly.

Products that are not vulnerable to breakage such as dried herbs and literature are now dispatched in eco-friendly, biodegradable and fully compostable envelopes known as ” Greenvelopes.” These environmentally-safe Greenvelopes are an alternative to classic pouches lined with a bubble wrap on the inside. Their construction contains a special filling that helps to withstand external damage, while still being completely biodegradable. In addition the manufacture of Greenvelopes does not involve chloride, and 100% of the paper used in their production comes from recycling.

In addition to the above, all bubble wrap that comes into the apothecary from goods delivered to us, or donated by local businesses (thank you to The Good Lyfe plastic free store here in Newquay, and the ever supportive Sprout Health foods) is re-used as customer packaging. Any cardboard is composted or recycled.

We admit that we’re far from perfect, but we’re fully committed to continuing to search for greener solutions.  It’s really important to us to offer eco-friendly packaging that protects your goods from damage, while still keeping costs down.

Some of the artisan products listed in the shop are manufactured in premises where nuts are handled. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that even products that do not contain nut oils are suitable for people with severe allergies. Products that do contain nut oils are clearly labelled, both on the product packaging and in the catalogue listing.

It’s very important that our customers have confidence in herbal medicine. If you’re at all unsure about the suitability of any of our products, or have a question about any of the ingredients, please feel free to get in touch via email – sarah@alchemilla.co and we’ll do our very best to answer your query.

Due to leaving the European Union and the complex VAT issues surrounding importing and exporting to the EU, as of 1st JULY 2021 we have reluctantly made the decision to cease sending all orders to the EU. As such, it is with deep regret that we have to say that we are no longer able to post to European countries outside Britain.

International shipping costs are charged as follows:

  • Southern Ireland – £12.50
  • USA – £22.50
  • Australia & Rest of World – £25

We aim to post all orders within 24 hours, however, as many products are hand made, this may not always be possible during busy periods. Should there be any delay in getting your goods out to you, we will always inform you via email so you can be completely sure of the time frame in which to expect your delivery.

Every effort is made to ensure your goods arrive in a timely fashion and as described. In the rare event that a parcel does not arrive or is damaged in transit, replacement goods will be sent out with no additional charge.

We offer a pick up service for customers who wish to save on postage and who live locally. Orders placed before 12 noon will be available for collection the following day (after 12) from Trevilley Farm Shop in Newquay. Choose the “local pick-up” option when placing your order.

All orders come with a side order of free, friendly advice, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re unsure about how to use a product, or if it’s going to be helpful for you. Unfortunately, in the interest of hygiene we’re currently unable to accept returns for the products listed unless there is a breakage in transit. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for details before you make your purchase.

If you’ve tried any of our products and would like to leave an honest review, please feel free to add any comments in the accompanying review section. Your feedback is valued and always put to good use to help improve our ” made with love” products and services.
